The best thing about our first day was using the new travel battery powered toothbrushes Mom gave us for Christmas. At least we had very clean and fresh teeth in our dump of a hotel which was 3 times the price of the one we reserved. When we arrived at the Villa Colonial at 11 pm in the atmospheric old town, the place was loc ked up tight. Rousing the night watchman and proceeding in Spanish he swore our name was not in the book and the place was full. I tried to access my written confirmation on the computer, which of course was not working. The fact is, he said, every room is full whether you have a reservation or not. We asked for other recommendations but he said everything was full. Our patient taxi driver drove us all around and went in with me to each place to check but every time the response was the same. Nada, nada pues nada!
