rpics Mindo

We´re now in Mindo, NW of Quito. The bad news: I´m getting a chance to try out my new rain gear. The good news: it´s really working well. This is our isolated $44 Cabana overlooking a river.
We took a taxi up to a waterfall place for a hike, and the driver happened to be a naturalist. He stopped a couple of times, the second time finding this choco toucan and golden-crowned quetzal. On the hike back to town I saw the featured bird - the cock-of-the-rock - but couldn´t get a pic or vid of it.

To get to the hike we had to ride this contraption across a gorge, 500ft or so off the ground.

The hike went to several waterfalls, with the access sometimes being a little dramatic.

  1. My hands are sweating just thinking about the cage over the gorge and that rickety "bridge"...only for the brave! And I am not!
